Let’s Talk Deodorant!

It’s summertime! Grilling…bike rides and ….the sweet-smelling odor of….let’s hope not Body Oder!!!
⠀⠀
Traditional deodorants could have a negative impact on our health and hormones. Don’t get me wrong, deodorant can be a lifesaver for masking body odor and minimizing sweat, but let’s see if we can minimize some possible negative side effects.
⠀⠀
There have been concerns on if there’s a connection between breast cancer and antiperspirant/deodorant use. Studies have provided conflicting results, so additional research is still needed to determine if there is a connection between aluminum-based compounds and breast cancer.
⠀⠀
Whether well-founded or not why give a natural alternative a try and skip the stress altogether?
⠀⠀
Aluminum, parabéns, propylene glycol, phthalates, and triclosan are all ingredients that may be in your favorite deodorants/antiperspirants. These don’t HAVE to be in your products to still get the job done!

Need a Good Natural Deodorant?

Here are some of the ones I’ve tried.

  • The one I gravitate towards most is Native. It has the nicest smell, texture and works well.
  • I LOVE the Piper Wai however because there’s activated charcoal in it it can stain your light colored clothes.
  • Schmidt’s I absolutely love the smell of but the texture was lumpy and did not apply well.
  • I also really like the smooth application of the Dermalogica but it’s not 100% additive free.
  • The EO works great but is messy and doesn’t last long!
    ⠀⠀
That being said on a hot sweaty summer day or after a long work out I definitely need a shower in a bag (aka… wet wipes) and another application.
    ⠀⠀
For me, natural deodorant is good for about four hours depending on the day. So travel with it 🙂
    ⠀⠀
Some people experience some kickback from transitioning to natural deodorants. There are things we can do to mitigate that response. If you’d like more info on those, send me a direct message!
    ⠀⠀
So in the spirit of helping you stay Happy Healthy and odor free all summer long… Give a natural alternative a try!
