Stop making the same mistakes with your diet as you make with your bank account

I talk with so many people who have an “ALL or NOTHING” mindset. Either we are perfect and right on or the wheels are coming off the bus while it’s on fire headed down the side of a mountain!

Why? Why? Why?

I am not unrealistic to think that I can change your personality, however I want to help change your thinking.  If you can develop a more balanced view of health then I am WINNING!

So let’s think about this….

You make small sustainable changes like you train 3 days a week over 3 months you have built some muscle and you have decreased body fat.  One day you slip when you’re on a hike and sprain your ankle.  Bummer, yes! However, although you need to rest and it limits what you can do at the gym, the fact that you set yourself up for success by building muscle and decreasing body fat now has you in a far better place to have to be a little more sedentary than before when you were not training at all.

Let’s look at scenario #2

You have slowly tried to be more diligent about eating whole real foods. You have learned to love some sauerkraut and you’re doing great about eating those veggies.  Because of that you have been feeling really good and let’s be honest the old #2 (aka poop game) has been awesome!  You’re feeling good about overall health and the positive things you have done to build a strong healthy gut.  One night you are woken up by a super painful tooth! Oh BOY!  That molar is infected.  You have to do one round of antibiotics and unfortunately that doesn’t kick it. Round 2 is what finally does it!   Well, 2 rounds of antibiotics is obviously not ideal for gut health, however an infected tooth is a far worse alternative! The fact that you diligently set your gut up with good health going into that scenario leaves you in a far better place than if you had not made those choices before!

Also, because you have created those healthy habits and incorporate all that healthy fiber you will now restore your gut and healthy bacteria faster than before!

Now THAT IS WINNING!

Ditch the all or nothing mentality.  Make small deposits everyday toward better health!

IT MATTERS!

I focus on getting enough fiber everyday! I aim for 30 grams. If I am doing that I know that my food quality and that my gut health is an excellent place and I feel like a million bucks there!

How about you? What have you noticed that makes the biggest impact on your health?
