What it means and what you can do

 

There are 4 stages to full blown diabetes:

 

1- Hyperinsulinemia – Signs are: 

-Difficulty losing weight when in a caloric deficit

-Never allowing yourself to be in a fasted state

-Constantly needing to eat

 

2- Reactive HyperGlycemia  – Signs are:

-Constant LOW or HIGH Blood Sugar Levels

Increased thirst and/or hunger.

-Frequent urination

 

3- Pre-Insulin Resistance & Insulin Resistance – Signs are:

-Acanthosis nigricans: Dark skin patches on the groin, armpits, and the back of the neck.

-PCOS – Polycystic ovary syndrome : Irregular menstrual cycles, infertility, and periods that cause pain.

 

5 – Metabolic Syndrome Signs are:

Weight gain in midsection – Apple Shape

High Triglycerides – Low HDL

High Blood Pressure

High Fasting Blood Sugar

 

There are a variety of symptoms of prediabetes so you may have it and not know it. But before people develop type 2 diabetes, they almost always have prediabetes—where blood sugar levels that are higher than normal but not yet high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes. It is possible that you may have some of the symptoms of diabetes or even some of the complications. If you think you may have diabetes or prediabetes, check with your doctor and get tested.

 

If you discover that you do have prediabetes, remember that it doesn’t mean you’ll develop type 2, particularly if you follow a treatment plan and make changes to your lifestyle through food choices and physical activity. 

 

Even small changes can have a huge impact on delaying or preventing diabetes altogether. Work with a healthcare professional or a health or nutrition coach to create a plan that works for your lifestyle.
