Diet Fads that DON’T Work – Basics that Do!

I don’t know who needs to hear this…. but I’m saying it again! The fat burning supplements and the slimming teas are NOT the best path to health or weight loss! 

 

The food and supplement industry is built on fads and “quick fixes.” Millions of dollars are spent each year in research and marketing, trying to get as many as possible hooked or to “buy in!” 

 

I know it’s not easy to take the high road. To fight the marketing. To delete the email or change the channel! However, the BASICS are what will ACTUALLY get you lasting results!  

 

If you’re struggling to fight the fads remember these basic steps are what really matter!

 

Eat nutrient dense foods most of the tim e- Real unprocessed delish food. Lean meats, veggies, fruits, nuts & seeds. Find a way to work in those treats that you love in moderation so you don’t feel deprived or the need to binge.  

Get plenty of fiber daily –  25 grams for you ladies and 35 grams for the gents! (that’s baseline people)

Drink Water – ½ your body weight in ounces – its basics but so neglected!

Get enough sleep – 7 hours or less is technically sleep deprived.  Sleep is when your body restores itself, it’s so important!

Exercise enough but not too much Move your body throughout the day! Each 1,000 steps added to a person’s day reduces their risk of mobility loss by 16 to 18 percent and delivers other benefits, including reducing the risk of heart disease, cancer and depression.

Get Sunshine on your face daily – This one gets missed a lot but it’s super important for your natural circadian rhythms and keeping all your body’s processes functioning properly.  If you’re in the midwest where sunshine is a little hard to come by in those winter months invest in a good sun lamp.  20-30 minutes daily and you’ll be as happy as a lily!

 

That’s it! THE BASICS. It’s not flashy, glitzy or sexy, but it’s reality.  I sometimes feel like a broken record, but I know we all need reminders and I know you’re listening!
