This red winter sangria is a festive addition to any meal. It’s mixed with apple, oranges, cinnamon and brandy for a citrus-spiced flavor that will keep you warm and help you celebrate the season.
Ingredients
For the sangria:
- 2 bottle semi-dry spanish red wine with fruity notes
- 3 cups apple cider or sugar free apple juice
- 3 honeycrisp apples cored and sliced
- Juice from 3 oranges about 1 cup
- 2 oranges sliced with the peel
- 2/3 cup brandy
- 1/2 cup Grand Marnier
- 6–7 cinnamon sticks
- 1 teaspoon whole cloves
For a chai sugar rim:
- 1/3 cup coconut sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon cardamom
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
For a cinnamon sugar rim:
- 1/3 cup coconut sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
Instructions
-
Add all of the ingredients to the slow cooker and cook on high for 1 hour. Do not go over or the fruit and orange rinds will start to taste bitter. When the hour is up, turn the heat to “warm” and serve with fresh fruit and cinnamon sticks.
-
To serve with the chai sugar rim, prepare two shallow bowls that will fit the size of the cups you’re using. Add fresh orange juice to one and then use the other to mix together the sugar and spices. Before adding the sangria, dip the rim of the glass in the orange juice then then the spices. Fill with the warm sangria and fresh fruit.
Notes
For cold sangria: Mix everything together in a large pitcher and refrigerate for 1-2 hours. Serve with a rimmed glass and top with club soda if desired.
