FEEL THE FEAR & DO IT ANYWAY

Understandably we avoid what scares us.  WHY…because it’s SCARY & UNCOMFORTABLE.

Think about learning to ride a bike.  That was scary right. The fear and unsteadiness however the desired outcome out weighted the fear of injury or bodily harm and we forged ahead!

There are so many situations in life that we need to face the same way.  Yes it’s scary, uncomfortable and uncertain however the end result or desired outcome with commitment and hard work is sooooo worth it!

FEEL THE FEAR and DO IT ANYWAY!  This was my moto for so many years because it constantly reminded me that in order to grow and succeed I needed to repeatedly do things that SCARED me, that CHALLENGED me, that made me want to PEE MY PANTS!  Then I knew… YEP… I’m outside of my comfort zone where growth happens!

I learned to ride my bike with the help of my older brother and cousins however here is the kicker.  We didn’t have training wheels. We didn’t have kid bikes.  The only bikes we had were communal FULL ADULT bikes!  Yes! Mens bikes where the crossbar was so tall there was no standing on the ground at all. I was a good 12 inches short!  I would jump on, barely reaching the pedals each stroke.  Forget sitting on the seat.  It was a full stand the whole way with a fear of slipping off the pedal and ….well…you know what that would mean! OUCH!  Oh and then there was stopping!  If you want to stop, full stomp back on that pedal and bail to the side cause again there was no reaching the ground with two feet!  It was quite the adventure but we learned and we had so much fun figuring it out!  Not allowing the fear stop us or even slow us down. Honestly I don’t think we even thought about the possibility of getting hurt. The joys of youth right!

As we move into adulthood, consequences become far more weighty and the risk involved in taking leaps is so much higher.  That causes us to stop, think. contemplate and often times back away!  It’s too scary. Too uncomfortable.  Rightly so, it should all be considered. However we need to not allow FEAR to be the factor that most heavily weighs on that scale!

Think about weight loss or fitness.  The process can be confusing or scary for some. What helps? You find a coach.  Someone who knows the ropes. Someone who has been thru this themselves and helped others on this very path and you trust the process. Yes, they are going to put you in uncomfortable situations and challenge you but all for a BETTER YOU!   They will put you on that bike, run alongside you until you gain your own momentum and when you feel uncertain, wobbly or want to quit they are right there to SUPPORT YOU, STEER YOU and GUIDE YOU!  Our friends, family and colleagues can at times do that same thing.  So this Monday we encourage you to take on the thing that scares you!  If its too much to go it alone, then don’t. Get a coach, a friend an accountability partner and…

FEEL THE FEAR BUT DO IT ANYWAY!!!
