Does Pain mean you have to stop training?

Injury or pain does not mean that you have to stop training. It means that is time to :

Learn – Adapt – Grow –

To stop training all together is probable the worst decision you could make.  For both your physical and mental health. We want to help you learn how to move through what can be a really dark spot for all athletes.

Learn What happened?  Identify the cause of the injury if possible.  Is it lack of mobility? Stability?Too much life Stress? Lack of Sleep? Not enough food? Too much load? You pushed past your capacity for that day/week?

Adapt –  For the time it may be wise to avoid things that aggravate it.  There are modifications and alternate movement patterns for everything.  You can train around pain successfully!

It does not mean you will avoid these things forever it just means that in the short term you need things to calm down before you begin to address the solution.  Can you swap out the movement with something less provocative?  How about changing range of motion?  Perhaps pulling from the floor lites up your back but from blocks you are just fine.  Maybe an overhead press is aggravating but a landmine is just fine. Utilize your coach to help you figure out what good swaps are for you because they are completely dependent on your individual situation. What works for one person may not work for another.

Grow –   It is time to get better. After things have calmed down ( typically a couple weeks) now it is time to address the weakness, instability or imbalance and get better!

Do you need more stability? Focus on that.

Is there a strength imbalance that caused one side to over compensate? Address that!

Is your Ego getting in the way because you think you’re stronger than you are?  Let’s work on our mindset.
