Are you making these mistakes when eating out?

Here are our Top 5 Tips for eating out

Mistake # 1. Going in STARVING-

Are you calorie or macro hoarding so you have plenty of room for your meal?  Saving a little extra can be a great idea but going in hungry is never good.

Tip #1 –  Eat healthy balanced meals throughout the day.

Skip the extra nuts or fun carbs so you have a little more wiggle room but do not go starving. Take the time to chew and digest and savor every bite.  Smell, taste and savor your meal. Don’t just distractedly inhale it only to look down and ask….where did all that food go?

Mistake # 2. Treating every meal out like it’s a special occasion.

I’ll have a soda pop or a super sugary adult beverage! If this is your non-negotiable then let it be, I respect that.

Tip #2 – Save those carbs for things that will actually fill you up and satisfy you!

Better yet, when sides are an option choose a green veggie! Does not have to be a salad.

Mistake # 3. Ordering everything breaded.

The app’s, your entree and desert. Again, if you want to enjoy some fish and chips go for it but don’t order the mozzarella sticks for an app and fried ice cream for dessert!

Tip #3 – Look for grilled or broiled or steamed options.

They often are far less greasy and have more  bright vibrant flavors.

Mistake #4. Enjoying those fries or burgers with a side of mayo or high calorie sauce?

Ok again if this is your non-negotiable for this meal ok…however let’s consider the amount of fat we are consuming with our french fried potatoes and then to add insult to injury lets slather that with some more fat by dipping them in mayo.

Tip #4 If Mayo or the dipping sauce is your thing, let’s share half the fries with a friend or ask for it on the side.

Moderate how much is on your sandwich by asking for it on the side and adding a controlled and measured amount.

Mistake #5 – Going in Blind!

Thinking…” I’m not going to worry about it. I’ll find something that I can have.”

Tip #5 – Look at the menu ahead of time and create a plan based on that! Plan the rest of you day around what you would like to order.

Bonus Pro Tip –#1

Crush your Protein and veggies first and then enjoy the carbs.  It will help to slow down insulin and you’ll feel more satisfied earlier and likely consume less calories overall.

Bonus Pro Tip -#2

Skip the super-size me or the bonus size at no extra cost. I don’t care if it’s FREE, do not tempt yourself with the extra items or quantity on your plate! Better yet, when your meal comes if you know the portion is more than a serving that you need to be satisfied instead of thinking…”I’ll stop when I’m full. Ask immediately for a box and remove the temptation. Get it out of sight and your “mind’s eye”. You will not even miss it and you won’t leave the restaurant feeling stuffed and bloated!
