Here are 10 Tips to create a Healthy Food Culture at home :

1- Share honestly- It is ok to share that you would like to make a change.

2. Role model Body Positivity. Speak positively about your body and other people’s bodies. This can help to build your own confidence too!

3. Focus on healthy lifestyle habits instead of talking about weight loss. Even if your goal is weight loss, make the focus of conversation the positive habits you are creating.

4. Demonstrate consistency with Healthy habits, and self-care – Show up for yourself. Using care when selecting your goals and targets will improve your consistency and send a positive message to those around you.

5. Encourage physical activity .Focus on talking about exercise as a way to gain strength, have fun, and feel happy and energised.

6. Make family meals a priority. Focus on mindful eating, variety, and how to listen to hunger and fullness cues.

7. Relish sweets and treats without shame or guilt. When choosing to indulge (and you absolutely should indulge at times) slow down, enjoy and savor. Encourage your kids and teens to do the same. Also do your best to disassociate food and or treats as “rewards” for good behavior or as a way to influence “feelings”. (ie eating treats to heal a broken heart)

8. Involve your kids in meal prep and planning. They can discover a variety of new foods that pique their interest and this will help them learn about building meals with balance.

9. Talk about food as fuel. Refer to food as fuel for the body and not as GOOD or BAD. Food can be viewed on a spectrum EAT more and EAT less but avoid dialogue that categorizes food as Good or Bad.

10. We are all unique. Remember and share that your body is unique. Your shape, the way your body utilizes energy from food, your physical abilities are all unique to you. Your child’s body is also unique
