5 Tips for better Pull-ups

Engage your lats before you start to pull – Pretend you’re trying to smash a grapefruit in your armpit. ​​The lats are a major contributor to the pull-up when done correctly. There are lots of other contributing muscles but let’s focus on the main players right now.

 

Think Big Chest and shoulders down and back.  This will ensure you are pulling with your lats and not your traps.  In order to engage the lats, try not to allow the elbows to be the first joint to move when starting to pull. Try not to shrug.  Shoulders down as you pull.

 

Create tension in your whole body. Engage your lower body – Squeeze legs and feet together.

Keep the Progress going – Add reps – Try to get to 50 in 5 sets.  Add weight. Add pauses or tempo to increase difficulty and continue to challenge yourself and progress.
